Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Full Time SalaryCompany Overview D&M is a leader in the defense industry, specializing in the manufacturing and supply of ammunition and propellant solutions. We serve a global client base and maintain an extensive network of international suppliers to deliver high-quality, mission-critical products and systems.
Job Summary We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join our engineering team as a hands-on individual contributor. In this senior role, you will be responsible for sizing, specifying, and coordinating all site-wide ancillary infrastructure and utility systems for our in-house manufacturing facilities and client factory installation projects. This includes boilers, blowers, HVAC, steam, compressed air, cooling water, chillers, high-load electrical systems, fire suppression, explosion-proof lighting, material handling (docks, bulk transfer), wastewater treatment/evaporators, and other support systems. You will ensure all infrastructure elements are properly sized, integrated, and documented to support safe, efficient, and compliant operations in a highly regulated defense manufacturing environment. Some domestic and international travel will be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently size and specify critical infrastructure systems, including boilers, blowers, HVAC equipment, steam systems, compressed air systems, cooling water networks, chillers, and associated utilities.
- Perform high-load electrical calculations and define electrical infrastructure requirements to support manufacturing operations.
- Design and coordinate site-wide utility strategies, including fire suppression systems, explosion-proof lighting, and safety infrastructure for hazardous environments.
- Evaluate and recommend solutions for material handling infrastructure, such as loading docks, bulk solvent transfer systems, and related logistics.
- Develop concepts and specifications for wastewater treatment, evaporators, and other environmental support systems.
- Interface closely with the Piping Design Engineer to ensure seamless integration of utility piping and process infrastructure.
- Prepare clear utility summaries, load calculations, equipment specifications, and infrastructure requirement documents for both internal projects and client deliverables.
- Assess site conditions and adapt infrastructure designs to varying international client requirements, local codes, and regulatory environments.
- Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, and constructability evaluations for infrastructure elements.
- Travel occasionally (approximately 15-30%) for site assessments, supplier coordination, client meetings, or factory installations, both domestically and internationally.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field (or equivalent combination of education and extensive experience).
- 15–20+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in industrial facility infrastructure and utility system design for manufacturing plants, preferably in chemical, energetics, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Strong expertise in sizing and specifying a wide range of support systems: boilers, blowers, HVAC, steam, compressed air, cooling water, chillers, fire suppression, and explosion-proof equipment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in high-load electrical calculations and infrastructure planning.
- Experience with site-wide coordination of utilities, material handling (docks, bulk transfer), and environmental systems (wastewater evaporators, etc.).
- Ability to work as an individual contributor, performing detailed calculations, specifications, and documentation independently.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to summarize complex infrastructure needs into clear, actionable documents for clients and project teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with cross-functional teams and international clients.
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (valid passport required).
- U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR/EAR regulations governing the defense industry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in the defense, aerospace, chemical processing, or ammunition/propellant manufacturing sectors.
- Familiarity with defense industry safety standards, hazardous area classifications, and export compliance (ITAR/EAR).
- Knowledge of international building codes, NFPA standards, and regulatory requirements for global projects.
- Experience using engineering calculation tools or software for load sizing (electrical, thermal, fluid, etc.).
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is a plus.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, 401(k), etc.).
- Opportunities for professional development and career growth in a growing defense technology company.
- Collaborative environment focused on innovation and supporting critical national security programs.
